Research

BOFIT's research is primarily in the area of applied macroeconomics, with the main focus on the monetary economy and economic policy. In addition to this, we also carry out research into structural change in the countries on which we are concentrating. The main geographical focus of this research is on Russia, but China is also covered. Recent research projects have dealt with topics such as the impact of exchange rate changes on the foreign trade of China, and the effect of oil prices on exchange rates in oil-producing countries.

Our aim is to produce applied research that is relevant to economic policy and that is methodologically sound and well integrated with the recent literature on economic theory. A vital part of our work is networking with our academic colleagues both domestically and internationally. For this reason we regularly organise seminars on transition economics. Another important component of networking is concrete research cooperation with colleagues in different universities and research institutes.
