On 27 January 2022, the national Financial Literacy Centre will be opened and begin operating at the Bank of Finland Museum. The Bank of Finland Museum provides visitors with an overview of the history of money and central banking activities and is tasked with promoting the general public’s knowledge on the economy, the country’s central bank and the wider Eurosystem. The work of the Financial Literacy Centre at the Museum will focus on promoting people’s financial and economic know-how and supporting the future national strategy on financial literacy, which is being led by the Ministry of Justice.

The goal of the Financial Literacy Centre, also set out in the national financial literacy strategy, is that Finland will have the world’s best financial literacy by 2030.

“The strategy work in 2020 was led by the Bank of Finland, with valuable contributions from the country’s key players in financial and economic education. For the Bank, improving and maintaining the general public’s financial literacy is very important, and this is best achieved in cooperation with the stakeholders involved. The Museum’s Financial Literacy Centre will now be focusing on putting this into practice,” says Bank of Finland Governor Olli Rehn.

The Bank of Finland Museum will continue to operate as a museum, but the opening of the Financial Literacy Centre will mean that in future the Museum’s exhibitions, tour information and events will feature more content relating to the promotion of financial literacy. The Centre will be able to start operating fully once the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided, but until then it will hold a series of virtual seminars on financial and economic topics on an almost weekly basis.
