Redemption of markka coins, annulled on 1.3.2002

From the beginning of 1994, the Ministry of Finance withdrew old coins from circulation. Until then, all coins minted since the 1860s had, in principle, been legal tender. The Bank of Finland redeemed these old-type markka coins, annulled at the beginning of 1994, until the end of 2003; coins annulled at the beginning of 1998 were redeemed until the end of 2007.

Coins included in the last markka coin series can be exchanged for euro at the Bank of Finland until 29 February 2012.

Markka coins are accepted for redemption at the Bank of Finland's Customer Service Office in Helsinki, S-Bank and Forex Oy.
