"Talouskirja Nyt" discussion series at the Bank of Finland Museum

The Bank of Finland will begin a new discussion series, centred on recently published books on economic issues, titled 'Talouskirja Nyt'. The discussion sessions, arranged at the Bank of Finland Museum, will present books published recently in Finland on a variety of economic issues, at which the authors or editors of the books will discuss with specialists from the Bank of Finland or with invited speakers.

Many books concerning economics and the economy, and directed at the public at large, are published in Finland, every year. Through its discussion series, the Bank of Finland wants to offer a forum to the public for discussion and an exchange of opinions on current economic issues. It also promotes the publication of domestic books on the economy.

The first in the series will be arranged on Wednesday 28 April 2010 at 17.30. This will be a review and discussion of the Gaudeamus publication “Naiset, miehet ja talous”, (Women, men and the economy) edited by Marja-Liisa Halko, Anne Mikkola and Olli-Pekka Ruuskanen. The discussion panel will comprise two of the book's editors Marja-Liisa Halko and Anne Mikkola as well as Antti Suvanto, Head of the General Secretariat at the Bank of Finland and Riitta Jallinoja, Emerita Professor at Helsinki University.

The second event in the series will be held on Thursday 27 May 2010 at 17.30, when the discussion will be based on “Rosvoparonien paluu” (Return of the Robber Barons) by Professor Markku Kuisma, published by Siltala. Discussing the book will be the author, Markku Kuisma joined by the Bank of Finland's senior economist, Pentti Forsman.

Further events in the discussion series will be announced later. Entry to the events is free of charge and they will be arranged on the premises of the Bank of Finland Museum, Snellmaninkatu 2, Helsinki.
