Doctor of Economic Sciences, Iikka Korhonen, 40, has been appointed Head of the Bank of Finland's Economies in Transition BOFIT Research Institute. Mr Korhonen will take over the position from the beginning of October 2009. The position is for a five year term. At present Korhonen is employed as Research Supervisor at BOFIT.
The former Head of Institute, Pekka Sutela, assumed the post of Head Adviser to the Board of the Bank of Finland on 1 September 2009.
BOFIT is an internationally renowned, high level research institute, specialising in research into economies in transition, with a particular emphasis on monitoring and analysing current developments in the Russian and Chinese economies and undertaking long-term academic research. The research undertaken by BOFIT concentrates mainly on macroeconomic and financial market issues in transition economies.
