Mr Vesa Korhonen completed his master's degree at the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) in 1983. At HSE, he conducted empirical research on business operations in the USSR and Eastern Europe and acted as assistant.
Korhonen has worked as economist at the Bank of Finland’s Bilateral Trade Department since 1984 and in BOFIT since 1995, focusing mainly on Russia. He was commercial attaché at the Finnish Embassy in Moscow in 1988, Officer in EFTA in 1991-94 (servicing free trade negotiations with Central and East European countries), Director's Advisor at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), in Finland/Norway/Latvia Constituency Office in 1998-2000 and 2006, economist at the European Central Bank in 2005 (Russia and Ukraine), and Economic and Financial Counselor (Russian economy) at the Finnish Embassy in Moscow in 2007-09.
