 Introduction

 

​Dr Elisa Newby has been an economist in the Forecasting unit of the Monetary Policy and Research Department at the Bank of Finland since 2010. Dr Newby’s current areas of responsibility include preparation of the Bank of Finland’s macroeconomic forecasts and development of forecasting systems and models.

Prior to this she has worked as a lecturer at the University of Cambridge and a researcher at the Centre for Dynamic Macroeconomic Analysis (CDMA) at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. In 2002–2004, Dr Newby worked in the Bank of Finland’s Statistics Department, where she was responsible for compiling balance of payments statistics. In 1999–2002, she served as a derivatives expert on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

Elisa Newby completed her PhD in Economics at the CDMA in 2007. Her doctoral dissertation dealt with sustainable monetary policy. She also has a Master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Helsinki.
