In 2011, the Bank of Finland celebrates its 200th anniversary. In commemoration of our bicentenary we shall be welcoming the general public, in January of 2011, to view to old building of the Bank's head office and the Bank's art collection. The Bank's Internet site contains two panorama virtual tours, one presenting the architecture of the main building and the other, a virtual art exhibition, presenting the art collection. This provides those who are interested, but unable to make the public viewing in January, to get to know the facilities and art works in virtual form.
The virtual tour requires the Adobe Flash Player application. If you do not have it already in your computer, it can be downloaded, free of charge, from
the Adobe website.
The Main Building and facilities
The Bank of Finland's main building was designed by the German architect Ludwig Bohnstedt. He was selected as architect of the central bank's head office in Finland's first international architectural design competition in 1876. Construction was completed in 1883. The virtual panorama presents the architecture and facilities in the head office's main building.
The art collection
Over a large number of years, the Bank of Finland has assembled a diverse art collection, amounting to close on 1200 works. The virtual tour is a key-hole view of the Bank's larger collection. The works are grouped by subject. The exhibition extends from the 1850s to modern days. Dive into the world of art!
