BIS survey of foreign exchange and derivatives market activity

Every three years, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) coordinates a global survey on foreign exchange and derivatives market activity, with the objective of obtaining information on the size and structure of these markets. The survey on foreign exchange markets was conducted for the first time in 1986, and derivatives markets were included in the survey in 1995.

The most recent survey was carried out in 2010, covering foreign exchange transactions as well as foreign exchange and interest rate OTC derivatives transactions conducted in April 2010, as well as data on outstanding amounts of derivatives contracts as they stood at the end of June 2010.
