Type and length of contract?

Visiting researchers are recruited as fixed-term employees of the Bank of Finland. The length of the visit can be negotiated and typically varies from a few months up to roughly a year. 

IT facilities?

Normal MS Office, wired Internet access and a selection of econometric programmes available for you at the Bank of Finland. Most of the programmes are available for all those who need them. Additionally, there are some programmes that are available only in special cases due to licence restrictions. Therefore, please inform of your wishes in advance. Please note that we have strict security regulations, eg the use of personal memory sticks is restricted.

Library services?

In addition to the Bank's own modern library in the same premises, you have access to a wide range of electronic data banks. You also have access to the library through your own office pc.  

Travel reimbursement?

You will be reimbursed for your personal round trip to Helsinki, according to the Bank's regular travel policy. 

Attendance of conferences?

Researchers are encouraged to present their research at the Bank in international conferences. All participations go through normal management procedures. 

Submission fees for journals?

The department pays the fees, as long as Bank of Finland is given as one of your affiliations. 

Taxation?

If your stay lasts less than six months, you are automatically taxed at 35% on your salary, paid on the last banking day of each month to a Finnish account. Normally the tax rate for visitors staying for longer periods is not dramatically different.

Accommodation?

A few furnished flats are reserved for visiting researchers at a reasonable rent. If they are suitable for you and available during your visit, you may choose to take lodgings in one of them. If you so wish, we can also assist you in renting a suitable flat/room on the market, at an apartment hotel or at a hotel.
