Internationella valutafonden (IMF)
Finland är medlem i Internationella valutafonden sedan 1948. Enligt lagen svarar Finlands Bank för kontakterna mellan finska staten och valutafonden, och banken har också betalat Finlands medlemskvot i IMF genom att placera delar av sin valutareserv i fonden.
Valutafonden har som mål att främja en sund ekonomisk utveckling och stabila valutaförhållanden i medlemsländerna. I detta syfte följer fonden den ekonomiska utvecklingen i sina medlemsländer. Tyngdpunkten i granskningen ligger på bilaterala konsultationer, s.k. artikel IV-konsultationer. I de flesta medlemsländer hålls konsultationer en gång per år.
Internationella valutafonden kan bevilja medlemsländerna tillfällig kredit för att trygga deras betalningsberedskap mot utlandet. För utvecklingsländerna finns en särskild lånefacilitet.
Valkretsen för de nordiska och de baltiska länderna har en gemensam representant i valutafondens direktion. Valkretsens samarbetsorgan är den nordisk-baltiska monetära och finansiella kommittén med representanter från centralbankerna och finansministerierna samt dess ställföreträdarkommitté.
