| | | (1) Starting from data for August 2012 the ECB has adjusted the calculation method for M3 and its counterparts in monetary statistics by excluding repo and reverse repo operations conducted via central counterparties. (2) There is a break in series in January 2002, as from which Eurosystem accounting rules on euro banknotes have affected currency in circulation (total and ‘with money-holding sector’). In the accounting, the ECB’s monthly share is 8 % of the total value of euro banknote issuance by national central banks; the other 92 % is allocated monthly to NCB balance sheets on the basis of respective paid-in shares of ECB capital. Total ‘banknotes in circulation’ on the Bank of Finland’s balance sheet may differ notably from the value of banknotes in circulation with the Finnish money holding sector. For that reason, the Finnish contributions to euro area monetary aggregates are reported exclusive of currency in circulation with the money-holding sector. | | | The 13 most recent monthly observations are provisional.
