The former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Finland, Esko Ollila, passed away on 1 December 2018. He was born on 14 July 1940.

Esko Ollila was Vice-Chairman and Member of the Board of the Bank of Finland in 1983–2000. He held many distinguished positions over the course of his long career, and served, for example, as Minister of Trade and Industry and Minister of Finance. He was also well regarded as a stalwart friend, and enthusiast, of Estonia.

The Bank of Finland is deeply saddened by the passing of its long-time Board Member and will fly its flags at half-mast on 3 December 2018.
