Jakub Lonsky is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). Jakub received his B.A. from Berea College and M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Pittsburgh in August 2019.Jakub's research interests lie at the intersection of labor economics, crime, political economy, and health economics, with a particular emphasis on international migration and transnational organized crime. His job market paper studies the origins and consequences of the Russian mafia (vory-v-zakone). His migration work focuses on the impact of immigration on local labor markets, natives' voting behavior, as well as the public health effects of a recent immigrant regularization program in the United States called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
