DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:BOFIT Seminar - Sili Zhou (University of Macau) - Global Banks in a Trade Shock: From Local Decline to Foreign Boom Co-authors: Daniel Berkowitz (University of Pittsburgh), Chang Ma (Fudan University) and Yichen Sun (University of Macau) =0D=0A Abstract We examine how global banks respond to trade shocks and their consequences. When rising imports reduce demand for import-competing domestic manufacturers, global banks shift their loan portfolios from domestic to foreign markets. This reallocation amplifies the negative effects of trade shocks on local economies while stimulating growth in recipient countries. We test this mechanism using global syndicated loan data, focusing on China's accession to the WTO. =0D=0A Online BOFIT seminars are open to all researchers interested in the subjects covered. The seminar will be recorded and the recording will be shared only with registered participants. Those wishing to attend a seminar are kindly asked to register in advance, by filling in  the Online Registration Form. =0D=0A The registration for the seminar is open until 9:00 am the day of the seminar. You will receive a link to join the seminar by email at the latest one hour before the seminar is scheduled to begin. =0D=0A   =0D=0A
