Dr Alejandro Riaño is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Department of Economics at City, University of London, where he has been a faculty member since 2020. Before joining City, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. He is a research fellow of the Nottingham Centre for Globalisation and Economic Policy (GEP) and CESifo. His research lies at the intersection between international trade, macroeconomics and development economics, and studies how firms and individuals adjust to globalisation. His current work focuses on quantifying the impact of export promotion policies on firm-level export performance, competitiveness and aggregate welfare and investigating how globalisation affects firms’ real and financial volatility. His research has been published in the Journal of the European Economic Association, European Economic Review, and the Journal of Development Economics, among others. He has been a consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank and World Bank’s Trade & Competitiveness Practice evaluating the impact of export promotion policies in the Dominican Republic, Nepal and Pakistan.
