Kimmo Virolainen, PhD (Econ), 50, will continue as Head of the Bank of Finland's Financial Stability and Statistics department. The Bank of Finland Board has today appointed Virolainen for a further term that is due to end on 31 January 2018.
 
Financial Stability and Statistics is responsible for analyses relating to financial stability tasks and the Bank's policy preparation as well as being responsible for the compilation of monetary financial institutions and balance of payments statistics relating to Finland. The department works to maintain and develop sound, reliable and efficient financial and payment systems. The department's cost-effective production of statistics is a crucial aspect of monetary and financial stability policy preparation in addition to macroeconomic and financial market analysis.
 
Kimmo Virolainen has been employed by the Bank of Finland since 1994 and has worked as head of department in the Financial Stability and Statistics since 2008.
