Latvia will introduce the euro on 1 January 2014. In order to accelerate the repatriation of Latvian lats, euro area central banks will exchange lat banknotes for euro in January and February 2014.

With the entry of Latvia, the euro area will now comprise 18 countries.

By agreement with the Bank of Finland, the Finnish branches of Forex Bank will exchange lat banknotes for euro, free of charge, from 1 January to 28 February 2014. The maximum amount that can be exchanged during one day will be EUR 1,000, and only banknotes will be accepted. An identity card must be presented at the point of exchange.

The banknotes will be exchanged at the fixed conversion rate of 0.702804 Latvian lats per euro.
