Contactless payments increased in October–December 2025 from a year earlier
Cards payments in October–December grew year-on-year. In particular, more contactless payments were made in the fourth quarter than in same period in 2024.
Finnish payment cards were used for card payments totalling EUR 19.6 billion in the last quarter of 2025, which was 3% more than a year earlier. In the last quarter of 2025, a total of 646 million card payments were made with Finnish payment cards, an increase of 5% from the last quarter of 2024.
The total value of contactless payments in the last quarter of 2025 was EUR 8.9 billion, which was 26% more than in the corresponding period a year earlier. In the fourth quarter, 433 million card payments were made using contactless technology, 13% more than in the last quarter of 2024.
Finnish payment cards were used in card payments totalling EUR 2.6 billion in other EU countries in the last quarter of 2025, an increase of EUR 385 million (18%) year-on-year. The aggregate value of card transactions made outside the EU amounted to EUR 565 million in the last quarter of 2025, which was 24% more than a year earlier.
Customers of Finnish payment service providers made 321 million credit transfers in the last quarter of 2025, which was 1% more than in the corresponding period a year earlier. The total value of credit transfers amounted to EUR 967.8 billion in the fourth quarter, which was 1% less than a year earlier. The total value of credit transfers to Finnish counterparties declined by 1% from a year earlier, amounting to EUR 762.1 billion in the last quarter of 2025.
