Call for Papers: Bank of Finland Seminar on Financial Market Infrastructures

August 27-28, 2026 in Helsinki

The 24th Annual Seminar on Financial Market Infrastructures, hosted by the Bank of Finland, will take place in person in Helsinki (Finland) on 27–28 August 2026.

We invite submissions addressing topical questions on financial market infrastructures (FMIs) including large-value and retail payment systems, securities settlement systems and central counterparties.  Specifically, we invite submissions of applied studies that use data driven or computational approaches, as well as research on FMIs.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • FMI Simulations and the development of simulation methodologies
  • Applications of machine learning in the analysis of FMI data
  • Implications and opportunities of tokenisation for designs, architecture, or functionalities of FMIs
  • Instant payments, central bank digital currencies and stablecoins
  • “Traditional” FMI research, including stress testing, risk metrics, liquidity in FMIs, critical participant analysis, payment behavior, and early warning indicators

Submission Details:

Those submitting papers should note the following:

All papers should be submitted via the following the instructions below.

-    Submissions are encouraged from central bank researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and academics.

-    Extended abstracts of 750 to 1500 words – or completed papers, if already available – should be sent in Word or PDF to tatu.laine(-at)bof.fi  to be received no later than Friday, 15 May 2026.

-    Authors will be contacted with a decision on their submission by end of May 2026.

-    Successful authors will be asked to provide a presentation and preferably a full paper no later than Friday, 14 August 2026.

-    Authors will be given 25 minutes to present their paper at the conference, followed by a short presentation by a discussant and open discussion.

-    There is no fee to attend. Lunch on both days and a conference dinner will be provided. Authors of accepted papers will be responsible for their travel and accommodation costs.
