Horacio Aguirre is Economic Research Manager at the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA). He conducts applied research on monetary policy, macroeconomics, and international finance, currently participating in IDB and BIS research networks. His recent work addresses physical risks on the financial system, the link between nonbank financial intermediation and capital flows, exchange rate pass-through to prices, and the impact of macroprudential policies on credit. As Head of Multilateral Fora at BCRA, he produce content for the G20 finance track and participated in the G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group, the Mercosur Macroeconomic Monitoring Group, and the Financial Stability Board’s Standing Committee on the Assessment of Vulnerabilities, among others. At BCRA he also served as advisor to the General Manager and worked in monetary programming and reserve administration. Previously, he was an economist at an international private bank.
He is Adjunct Professor at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa and Invited Professor at the University of Buenos Aires and San Andrés University (Argentina).
Mr Aguirre holds a BA in Economics (honors) from the University of Buenos Aires, an MA in Economics from Torcuato Di Tella University, and a PhD in Economics from San Andrés University. He also trained on money and applied macro at the Gerzensee Study Center, the Bank of England, the Deutsche Bundesbank, the IMF Institute, and the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies.
