MSc (Econ) Mauri Lehtinen, 64, has been appointed Head of the Bank of Finland’s new Cash Department. The Board of the Bank of Finland confirmed the appointment at their meeting on Friday. Lehtinen’s post is for a fixed term, until 1 June 2014.
 
As part of an organisational restructuring, the Currency Department will merge with the Security and Property Management unit, currently under the auspices of Administration, to form the new Cash Department, on 1 January 2013. Lehtinen has been Head of the Currency Department since 2006. Before that he held the position of Head of Payments and over the years before that has been head of a number of different units at the Bank of Finland. Mauri Lehtinen began his career in central banking in 1969.
