Haihong Gao (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences): China's financial opening and stability

Haihong Gao is the lead fellow of CASS project “China and International Financial System”, standing council director of China Society of World Economy and of China Society for Finance and Banking. She is also the member for advisory board of the Official Monetary and Finance Institution Forum (OMFIF). Before taking the present post she was a visiting scholar at University of California at Davis and later a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore. She was appointed as chief economist of the Network of East Asian Think-Tanks, China Working Group. She has led numerous research projects sponsored by China Ministry of Finance, People’s Bank of China, and China’s National Social Science Fund, etc. She holds BA and MA degrees in Economics from Peking University, and MSc in International Money, Finance and Investment from Durham University, UK. Her publications include: International Financial System: Reform and Reconstruction (co-authored book); G20 and Global Economic Governance (co-authored book); The RMB Internationalisation (BIS paper); Global Liquidity: Risks and Policy Options (IER paper) ; The Potentials for RMB’s Regional Use (IER paper); Optimal Currency Area: An Empirical Study on Selected East Asian Economies (CWE paper); Real Exchange Rate in China: A Long-run Perspective (CWE paper); Liberalising China’s Capital Account: Lessons Drawn from Thailand’s Experience (ISEAS working paper), etc.
