Current account

  • Current account was EUR 0.1 bn in surplus in December 2011, ie EUR 0.7 bn less than a year earlier. In BOP terms, current account was EUR 0.3 bn in deficit.
  • Current account for 2011 as a whole was EUR 1.0 bn in deficit, as compared to a surplus of EUR 3.3 bn in 2010. Current account last posted a yearly deficit in 1993.
  • Revised trade balance data for 2010 are published on 15 March 2012 according to the normal BOP revision schedule.

  • Net outflow of EUR 0.2 bn in direct investment.
  • Net outflow of EUR 8.4 bn in portfolio investment.
  • Net inflow of EUR 5.2 bn in other investment (loans, deposits, trade credits).

Finnish residents’ foreign assets exceeded foreign liabilities by EUR 26 bn.

  • Foreign assets totalled EUR 698 bn.
  • Foreign liabilities totalled EUR 672 bn.
  • Net international investment position excluding equity items was a negative EUR 48 bn.
