​Kimmo Virolainen DSc (Econ), 52, Head of Financial Stability and Statistics, has been appointed as Finland’s representative for the post of Alternate Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The three-year term at the office of the Nordic-Baltic constituency begins in January 2016.

Kimmo Virolainen has headed the Bank of Finland’s Financial Stability and Statistics Department since 2008 and has previously carried out various tasks at the Bank since 1994. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the ECB-led Single Supervisory Mechanism. He is also the Bank of Finland representative on the European Banking Association’s Board of Supervisors.

The Bank of Finland is responsible for Finland’s relations with the IMF. The Nordic-Baltic constituency has a joint representative on the Executive Board of the IMF.
