Digitalization, technological innovations and changing customer behavior shape the landscape of payment systems and financial market infrastructures. At the same time regulatory changes, increasing importance of cyber security as well as growing demand for sustainability define new requirements for these services. This creates a need for economic research in the field of payments that can provide timely insight on the functioning of these critical systems and to the incentives of their stakeholders. This enhanced understanding is necessary to support the regulation, policy and practical development work to achieve safer and more efficient solutions.
